This beautiful 40mm bronze medal commemorates Emperor Napoleon I's visit to the city of Toulouse on July 25, 1808.
-
Obverse: Features the iconic laureate portrait of Napoleon by J.B. Andrieu, signed "ANDRIEU F."
-
Reverse: Designed by Denon, it shows the personification of Toulouse (the "Towery Crowned" woman) welcoming the Emperor. The Latin inscription PRAESENTIA DONISQUE TOLOSA FELIX translates to "Toulouse happy in his presence and gifts."
Condition & Strike: This is an official restrike produced by the Monnaie de Paris (Paris Mint) using the original 19th-century dies. The edge is hallmarked with the Cornucopia and the word BRONZE, indicating a strike produced after 1880. It has a gorgeous deep chocolate patina with crisp details and minimal rim wear.
