King Richard I Silver Hammered Cut Halfpenny – Short Cross Class 4a, London Mint
-
Obverse Portrait : Shows a wonderfully crisp right-hand profile of the king's face. The diagnostic pelleted beard is clearly defined alongside an isolated, chunky crescent hair curl enclosing a central pellet.
-
The 6 O'Clock Diagnostic Key: At the lower edge of the obverse, the letter "S" from the hENRICVS legend is perfectly preserved. It displays the classic, disjointed, blocky two-pellet punch style that is a hallmark of the erratic Class 4a die engravers before the cleaner punches of 4b were introduced.
-
Reverse Legend : Clear layout displaying a crisp voided short cross with four-pellet quatrefoils in the angles. The clear reverse legend reads
...ON LVN, confirming production at the London Mint.
