An attractive, full-weight silver denarius of Julia Mamaea, the powerful mother and regent of the Emperor Severus Alexander. This classic issue features a sharp portrait on the obverse paired with Vesta holding the iconic Palladium on the reverse.

  • Obverse Legend: IVLIA MAMAEA AVG

  • Obverse Description: Draped bust of Julia Mamaea right, wearing a stephane (diadem). Her hair is intricately combed in horizontal waves and secured in a broad plait up the back of her head.

  • Reverse Legend: VESTA

  • Reverse Description: Vesta, veiled and draped, standing facing left, holding a small palladium in her outstretched right hand and a long upright sceptre in her left hand.
