Edward II (1307–1327) Hammered Silver Penny – London Mint

An attractive medieval hammered silver penny struck at the Tower Mint in London during the early reign of Edward II (c. 1309–1311). This piece exhibits several notable diagnostic punch features bridging Class 10cf5 and Class 11a.

  • Obverse: Crowned facing bust within inner beaded circle. Legend reads + EDW R ANGL DNS HYB. Displays a bifoliate crown (two-leaved side fleurs) and an angle-backed letter E.

  • Reverse: Long cross pattée extending to outer edge with three pellets in each angle. Legend reads CIVI TAS LON DON (City of London). Features mixed, undecorated Roman Ns in the reverse legend formed with simple wedge/bar punches.
