Description:

An authentic Roman Imperial bronze As struck under the infamous Emperor Caligula (Gaius) during his first regnal period (AD 37–38).

  • Obverse: Bare head of Caligula left, with an exceptionally sharp, fully legible legend: C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS PON M TR POT.

  • Reverse: Vesta, veiled and draped, seated left on a throne, holding a patera and sceptre. Flanked by a large S — C (by decree of the Senate).
