Stunning Vintage French Art Deco Bronze Medal by Claude-Léon Mascaux (1882–1965)

Up for auction/sale is an exquisite, high-style French Art Deco bronze art medal designed by the renowned twentieth-century sculptor and medallist Claude-Léon Mascaux. Mascaux was a premier figure in the interwar French art scene, famously winning a bronze medal for sculpture at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games and a Grand Prix at the landmark 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs.

Design Elements:

• Obverse : Features a striking, high-relief mythological Art Deco scene. A young satyr/Pan sits playing a double aulos (flute) to an energetic, dynamic female dancer. The figures exhibit classic Art Deco geometry, particularly visible in the sharp, zigzagging lines of the dancer’s hair and the fluid, dramatic sweep of her fabric drape. Signed vertically along the left edge: C. MASCAUX.

• Reverse : Features a beautiful, highly detailed border wreath composed of relief rose buds and foliage. The central circular field is completely unengraved and blank, making this an incredibly desirable, pristine "unawarded" example.

• Edge : Plain edge stamped with an incuse BRONZE purity mark and a triangular private foundry assay hallmark, authenticating its French interwar production.
