  • Aspendos, Pamphylia – AR Silver Obol (c. 440–400 BC) An exceptional and broader-than-average silver fraction from one of the most powerful trading cities of ancient Asia Minor. This coin is physically impressive for the denomination, measuring 12 mm across.

    Design Details:

    • Obverse: Amphora (storage jar) in high relief.

    • Reverse: Triskeles (three-legged symbol) rotating left; small lion’s head symbol in lower field.

    • Reference: SNG France 14; SNG Copenhagen 162.

    Condition & Eye Appeal:  The surfaces are stable with honest wear on the high points of the triskeles. The strike is deep and well-centered on an unusually wide 12 mm planchet.
