  • Composition: Bronze (AE).


Iconography

  • Obverse (Front): Draped bust of Pan facing right. He wears goat horns on his forehead. Resting over his shoulder is a lagobolon (a rustic throwing stick used by shepherds).

  • Reverse (Back): Athena Alkidemos ("Defender of the People") striding to the right. She holds a shield (aegis) on her left arm and raises a spear in her right hand as if to throw.

  • Inscription: ΠΕΛ-ΛΗΣ (PELL-ES), split on either side of Athena.

  • Monograms:  M in the left field and an HP ligature in the right field (Magistrate marks for the Pella mint).
