Description
Ancient Roman Imperial Bronze As of Emperor Vespasian (AD 69–79)
An honest, well-circulated bronze As minted under the first Flavian Emperor, Vespasian. This issue features the popular Pax (Peace) reverse type, struck by the Flavian dynasty to mark the return of stability and civil peace following the chaotic "Year of the Four Emperors" in AD 69.
-
Obverse: Laureate head of Vespasian facing right, showing his characteristically rugged portrait. Part of the legend is clear:
IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG [...] -
Reverse: Pax (Peace) standing left, holding an olive branch in her right hand and a cornucopia in her left. Large, bold S — C (Senatus Consulto) across the lower fields.
