Item Description

For sale is an authentic Elizabeth I silver milled sixpence dated 1562, produced by moneyer Eloy Mestrelle at the Tower Mint in London using early horse-drawn mill presses.

• Obverse: Features the crowned large bust of Elizabeth I facing left with a Tudor rose behind her head and the Star mint mark. Legend reads ELIZABETH D G ANG FR ET HIB REGINA.

• Reverse: Features the long cross fourchée over the quartered shield of royal arms with the date 1562 above. Legend reads POSVI DEVM ADIVTOREM MEVM.

• Condition Notes: The coin retains fantastic detail on both the portrait and the shield with a nice natural tone. It has significant historical damage, including deep structural flan cracks/tears across the bust and rim, and minor buckling typical of thin early milled silver ground finds. Weighs 2.83 grams.
