Abbasid Caliphate Silver Dirham – Caliph Al-Ma'mun
Struck at Madinat al-Salam (Baghdad, Iraq) | AH 207–208 (c. 822–824 CE)** Up for sale is a beautifully preserved, genuine silver dirham from the Islamic Golden Age. This coin was struck under the famous Abbasid Caliph Al-Ma'mun, the great patron of the House of Wisdom in Baghdad.
Historical Context & Design This piece represents Al-Ma'mun’s landmark monetary reform type. It features the distinctive double obverse margins introduced in AH 206, which added the secondary prophetic verse from the Qur'an (Surah Ar-Rum). The epigraphy is rendered in sharp, classic early Kufic script.
