Item Description

A fascinating and scarce 17th-century French Feudal copper Double Tournois (or contemporary local issue) struck under Louise Marguerite de Lorraine, Princess of Château-Regnault, during her solo reign (1614–1629).

These autonomous regional issues were struck in northern France and heavily circulated throughout Western Europe, frequently crossing the Channel into Britain via trade.

Diagnostic Features Present:

• Obverse: Right-facing portrait bust of the Princess with a distinct letter "B" clearly visible behind the neck truncation. Partial legend "...INCES..." (from PRINCESSE) readable between 7 and 10 o'clock.

• Reverse: Central cross with highly distinct stylized flower buds / rosettes in each of the four angles (a departure from the standard French royal lily design to assert local sovereignty). Partial mint legend "...AOC..." (from CHASTEAV REGNAOD) visible at 1 o'clock.
